We learned a new type of breathing (new to me) at Yoga recently, and I figured out a way to apply it to shoveling snow. It is called Kalabati Breath and is a strong exhale with a deliberate pulling in of the belly muscles. I was Kalabati shoveling about 1.5 inches of snow this morning, using the exhale breath as I start to throw the snow. I felt strong as I shoveled & did not tire as quickly.
I'm trying to live more like I'm in a "Blue Zone" & incorporate physical activity into every day activities. If only my computer was pedal powered! Looking for more core building exercises that I can work into my busy day!
Try Kalabati shoveling for yourself & let me know how it worked for you.
